We are pleased to highlight the ongoing impact of the Market Harborough and The Bowdens Charity allotments at Stevens Street and Northampton Road.

What stood out most to us was the role of outdoor learning at our Steven Street allotments in Market Harborough. We were delighted to offer the school a plot, and it has been wonderful to see it develop into a valuable space for the students.
For the children at The Divergent School, Harborough, the allotment offers something different from the classroom. It provides a calm, structured outdoor environment where learning feels practical and real. Pupils can work together, take responsibility and see the results of their efforts over time.
These experiences are especially valuable for children with additional needs. Time outdoors, away from a traditional classroom setting, can support focus, well-being, and engagement in learning.
At the allotment, pupils are not just growing fruit and vegetables. They are also learning about the environment, building confidence, developing independence and gaining practical life skills. This kind of outdoor learning helps children see their progress, which can be incredibly motivating.
We are really pleased to be able to offer this allotment plot at our Steven Street site. It is not just about the space itself, but the community around it. Other allotment holders have been incredibly supportive and encouraging to the school and its students. That connection brings shared knowledge, encouragement and a welcoming environment, helping pupils feel more confident and supported.
Building on the success of this project, the school is now taking on a second plot at Steven Street, giving them more space to continue their outdoor learning.
