The Charity’s application policy is below:

Higher Education Grants

Market Harborough and The Bowdens Charity welcomes applications from students living in Market Harborough, Little Bowden, or Great Bowden.

Grants are primarily intended for undergraduate students. When deciding awards, The Charity considers family income and student maintenance loans.

Particular consideration is given to students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education or who are from low-income households.

Postgraduate study is only supported in exceptional circumstances. However, postgraduate teacher training and NHS courses such as nursing and midwifery are supported.

Vocational Training Post-16

The Charity also supports those aged 16 and over who choose to pursue vocational training, particularly applicants from lower-income households.

Career Change

Applications to support career changes where someone has lost their job or cannot continue in their current occupation due to health or other reasons are not normally considered.
However, Trustees will consider each application on its own merits.

If you require any further information, please phone the Charity Office on 01858 419128 or email admin@mhbcharity.co.uk

Why We Offer Education Grants

The Charity believes education plays an important role in developing confidence, skills and future opportunities for individuals and the wider community.

With the rising cost of living placing pressure on many families, these grants provide practical support to help students focus on their studies.

The Charity continues to be encouraged by the progress of the students supported. One recent recipient is Martha, whose Musical Theatre training has been supported through an Education Grant.

“Having support from such a generous charity has really changed my life and experience.”

Education Grants support local students and contribute to a stronger community for the future.

“I have been fortunate enough to receive a grant from Market Harborough & The Bowdens Charity for the last two years. It has helped hugely with my living costs and with the additional expenses of travelling to the different placements each term. The grant has taken away the pressure to work additional hours, allowing me to focus on my studies.
Thank you, Market Harborough & The Bowdens Charity and all involved in making the charity invaluable to the community.”
