Focus on Schools

This year we have had a record number of applications for Education Grants and will be providing funding for 115 students during the coming financial year. As we said in our article last month, these grants are not just for those taking degrees and it is worth talking to us if you are considering a vocational qualification. Last month we featured student Daniel Keal, who is taking Blacksmithing and Metalwork at Hereford College and you can see a video featuring Daniel on our YouTube channel.

We have also recently announced our new Schools Fund. This is a fund of £600,000 over the next three years. The Charity is aware that budgets for schools in Harborough and the Bowdens are more challenging than ever and schools have no money for additional projects. We have invited local schools to apply for funding of up to £20,000 a year, for the next 3 years, to fund new and innovative projects to enhance learning.

Unlike many grants this money does not require match funding and we have already started to receive applications and are looking forward to talking to schools over the next few months.

Market Harborough and the Bowdens has an excellent record in education and we have recently funded or are currently helping to fund a number of exciting projects in schools outside our new schools fund. This includes new microphones for the Music Department at Robert Smyth; a Forest Schools Project with Meadowdale, which will encourage children to make contact with the natural world; an Outdoor Reading Garden at Great Bowden Academy; and a Sensory Room at The Ridgeway.

There‘s a lot going on at Market Harborough and the Bowdens Charity at the moment, and you can find out more on our website (www.mhbcharity.co.uk) or by following us on social media. Please like our Facebook page, follow us on Instagram and Twitter and subscribe to our YouTube Channel. There are new posts every week and it’s one way of contacting the Charity if you have ideas for changing lives for the better in Market Harborough, Great Bowden or Little Bowden.
