The town’s cricket club is launching a softball cricket team to empower girls aged 11 to 17 to get involved in the sport.
Cricket club member Greg Hancock successfully applied to Market Harborough and Bowdens Charity for a grant to purchase the necessary equipment, kit, and professional coaching for this exciting venture. The sessions will take place on Monday evenings throughout the summer months.
Greg Hancock decided to champion the project after supporting his son’s cricket endeavours at Market Harborough Cricket Club. During this time, he began practising in the nets with his 15-year-old daughter Poppy, who had a passion for cricket but lacked a team.
Greg and his daughter made a pact that if there were a team, she would join, and so Greg was inspired to take action and apply for a charity grant.
Market Harborough and Bowden’s Charity love championing community initiatives that benefit a wide group. The grant was awarded, and they supported Greg in recognising the need for a girls’ cricket provision in Market Harborough.
